hi! my friends and i are thinking about upgrading to premium soon but one of us is in a different country. i watched a video dated January 26, 2020 and the creator mentioned that the only downside for him was that he couldn't share his premium with his brother-in-law who lives in a different country. I tried looking for forums about this but i'm not getting the answers i need. Does anyone know anything about this? :( thanks!
I had a doubt about the YouTube Premium Family Plan
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't quite find an answer so here I am. I didn't have YouTube Premium but my brother has, so he invited me to the YouTube Premium Family Plan. My question is that if I accept it, is he able to see what I am watching, what I had watched previously (my watch/search history) and when I'm watching? Depending on that, I'll accept it else enjoy the ads :) Appreciate yall for the help!
Too late to upgrade to youtube premium family plan?
Since the Youtube Premium/Stadia deal will expand to more countries on the 16th I also figured out that if you have a family plan for premium, every member will get one kit each - as one eligible user stated in android. If I upgrade to a family plan now, will I be eligible for the family offer? Keep in mind that I've already had the standard premium subscription for months.

There is no denying CDC has the first-mover advantage here, no matter what the competition ("copycats", or second/third/etc to market). However, some of the subscription rebates are not on par with the rest any more. A "YouTube Family" rebate on certain card tiers (e.g. on Royal Indigo/Jade Green - or perhaps standard YouTube on these, and YouTube Family on Icy White/Rose Gold) and up would create a killer-offering:

So I just recently signed up for the family membership option on my YouTube premium account. Little did I know they want anyone in the plan to live in the same household, which seems like something they should mention upfront. Since I wanted this service for family and friends (who aren't using my billing address like family would be) I decided to delete my family, however youtube still shows that I have the family plan. Should I just recreate the family and add friends anyway (along with real family of course) and ignore that policy, or is it upheld very well and I should keep it to family? How would I go about getting my normal youtube premium account back without unsubscribing from the service as a whole? Is there a way? Or no?
Grandfathered Plan upgrade to Youtube Premium Family for $14.99/month.
Just thought I'd share my experience upgrading to Youtube Premium Family for $14.99/month. TLDR this option is still available to those with grandfathered plans. I was in a somewhat unique situation. Originally signed up for GPM for 7.99/month back in 2013. In Feb 2016 they had a special offer on GPM gift membership which made it $5/month. I paid $300 for 5 years which was the limit so I was good until Feb 2021. 18Aug20 got an e-mail saying GPM is ending soon and they will convert my remaining subscription from Sept to Feb into Google Play Credit. The link in the e-mail gave me a promotional credit of $150 good until 31Dec21. Don't know how they came up with $150 since I had 6 months left which is only $60 at full price or $30 actual cost. Redeeming promo code didn't deactivate my membership. It was still working as of today. I figured it might stop working once GPM is 100% shut down (still working on my apple phone but not android phone). Saw that some people in past were able to get YTP Family for 14.99 based on the fact that they had grandfathered plan. Was afraid this option would be gone once my GPM subscription truly ended so thought I'd give it a shot. Couldn't initiate chat function in GPM app. Had a promo offer for Google One free for 3 months which includes free chat support with Experts. I activated it in anticipation of needing support if they somehow screwed up the transition and took away my grandfathered rate. Through Google One Expert they gave me a link to to Youtube that allowed me to sign up for family membership for $14.99. Interesting thing is it still factored in my GPM membership which was still good until Feb 2021 at full value. So I only have to pay $5/month until the end of February then start paying $14.99. I've been wanting to upgrade to Family Plan many times in the past since I have 3 people using it. The few times I asked about it in the past they told me I would lose what was left of my 5 year prepaid membership if I upgraded to the family plan so I never went through with it. It's nice to see that they changed their stance at some point. So in the end I got the full value of my 5 year gift purchase at $300 and a $150 credit on top making my cost $2.50 month. YTM sucks but at least Google has been good to me.
Fuck it I am coming back! After 3 weeks of YTM and then going back to Spotify for a couple of months I am now subscribing to YouTube Premium Family. It was the crossfade stopping me from staying but fingers crossed the will one day add it.
Sharing YouTube premium family across different countries?
My dad insists on signing up for YouTube premium, because he doesn't want to use YouTube Vance. So I thought if we're gonna do this, I might as well set the whole family up with Indian YouTube Premium. I've created a new Indian Google account (VPN) and signed up for YouTube Premium family. But when I try to add people from my family it tells me it's not the same country. I don't want to have to install VPN on everyone's phones and stuff. Is there any way I can get around this crap? Edit: we're all in Europe, but the Indian Youtube premium is a couple of bucks a month, that's why I chose India.
YouTube Premium Family Account Electronic Check-In
I want to do Family Premium (yes I know of Vance and other apps. No thanks). But some of my kids, whom I support fully, are in a dorm. They don't even HAVE a billing address in their accounts and are unable to get premium. Does anyone know how this "Electronic check-in" works? Edit: been sharing with my brother who lives in a different city for a few months now. So far so good Looking for an up to date answer on this. My brother and I are moving from Spotify to youtube music cause the YouTube ads are out of control and we're not married to Spotify. We live in different cities. It would be me and my wife at my house and him and his wife at his house. Will this work? The fine print says they have to be the same house but a quick Google search says people didn't run into any issues. Just looking for someone that has this set up right now and if it works?

Hi, My boyfriend has myself, his brother and his two parents on the family plan. Ours ran out a month or two ago but we occasionally get ads to renew the plan on everyone’s device, not just the person paying for the subscription (which is an awful idea and leads me to this question.) It was renewed, nor him or I activated it as we are living pay check to pay check. His brother claimed it’s been on and he hadn’t touched it. That’s clearly a lie as it wasn’t on at any point until my boyfriend’s bank account was charged earlier. They won’t let him cancel even if it’s his own money and his mom offered to pay but I want to find out who did it. We all live in the same household. Is there any way you can view what family member renewed the subscription? With how much money we have, the amount wasn’t just small as he JUST got paid and we immediately pay for other major and expensive bills. I’m just super angry at the fact he was nice enough to up to a family plan for a little bit until we couldn’t afford it then we would have put it back on when we could, just for him to be lied to his face possibly. I don’t even want him to have any of them on anymore just for the simple reason we have no idea who did it and since the option to renew is just openly available I don’t trust anyone else, only his mother as she doesn’t lie. If it’s not possible, YouTube should really fix that, as people on the plan other than the person paying shouldn’t be given an option to renew the plan.

Posting for awareness: I recently received an email from YouTube asking me to confirm my address with the notice my account may be suspended as "All YouTube Premium family members must live in the same household (residential address) as the family manager." I understand that Google does this to deter Bob and Bill who met on the internet from creating a family plan from and splitting the costs. But, after talking to a rep it appears Google/YouTube uses your device location to monitor how long you have been away from the family manager which is invasive. Additionally, it impacts actual "family" groups where kids are in another city whether it's for school, work, and etc. I hope someone on the YouTube team sees this and revises their policy and practices.
