If the title made you angry somehow, please focus on the question mark in it, and gather up your thoughts in a beautiful comment. Path of Exile has more and more content with each new league. With Betrayal, I was happy to see that GGG took the time to make scrapped leagues come back. More content, more ways to acquire stuff, new challenges, more activities. However I felt this league suffered from the Standard Syndrome: dilution.
Diluted content
Basically, when you enter a level (act or maps), you get a guarranteed sample of the current league content and you roll for other leagues content. So it's generally easy to progress the current league system and see its end bosses (Syndicate HQ, Breachlord, Spirit Beasts...) or to use its mechanics meaningfully (Essence, Delve...). However in Standard, there's no current league and every previous league is a roll, so everything is diluted.
Content becomes poorer
The consequences are bad, cumulatively. You lose the strength of a league, for example early crafting while leveling with Essence. Depending on the time you get to spend on a video game, you may also see its goals flee out of reach, for example Breachlords. Essences are powerful if you regularly find the mod you want through Acts' levels. The less essence you find, the more likely it becomes a crappy orb of alchemy with one obligatory unwanted mod. If you don't invest a big amount of hours of play and don't trade, Breaches are just glorified strongboxes, as every next league you won't get enough shards to go and fight a Breachlord.
You said it yourself about Delve content
At the beginning of this league, lots of players complained about it for Delve. The response from GGG was underwhelming. Basically it was "ok, err... here's a little boost for your max amount of sulphite so you can stock more". The root of the problem is still there. You still have to roll dice to get access to Delve, when it's the perfect content to go for the endless grind into oblivion that maps were before Atlas. You roll dice to know if you are allowed to play that other content instead of being given the choice. And when I say you just roll dice, there's litterally nothing else. Here's a sample of the gameplay behind acquiring suphite: link. I find it hard to believe that nobody at GGG went to the design team to tell them "Errm, guys... we're not the PoE mobile game team..." And of course Betrayal's mod system is likely to join the madness. Getting the good mods is currently random, but you end up getting them by playing more. If diluted, people with less time to play will have to pray they get the mods they need for their build.
The Map Casino
The result is that not only we've lost the strength of previous leagues while leveling up through acts, but maps have become a casino where the game tells you what you're allowed to play. We have a lot of content in PoE now, but you don't choose, the game does. "Why is it bad to have random entrance tickets?" you might ask, thinking how ARPG are deeply rooted in randomness. First, random rewards are the core of ARPG, not random entrance to a level. ARPG are far from all random. Random rewards work well notably because there's still progression. The range of results isn't the same in the beginning and in the top levels. And even if your goal isn't a rare with only 4 good mods, getting one may still be progression. But entrance to a level should rarely be random. You can have Atziri key items on random drops, that's one thing. It's a side boss. You can't have the final boss. GGG necessarily realised it when giving shaper fragment a 100% chance to drop. Well, if you want to give your player a wide choice of activities in your game, don't let the game choose for them. The wide choice of builds is directly conflictual with the non-choice of content you'll tackle. Key items to enter the next level or other content should be given by a challenge, not randomness.

After 139 maps, I finally got my... 4th trial. Zana quest line still stuck on a map that would drop, bonus at 2%.
Thanks to a lucky drop in a Delve's Vaal Outpost, I get the map to continue Zana quests. At 144 maps, I have the elder vs shaper war going on and it becomes smoother.
Just a bit later on my 156th map I get my 6th trial.
It is mind-boggling. Trials of ascendency themselves are the test to know if you're worth entering the uber lab. The lab itself is the test to know if you're worth getting those last 2 ascendency points. One shouldn't be stuck that long before the game accepts to give a shot.
No good solution currently
In the end, it's sad to have so much in the game and yet only get small bites of each system. And when I'm trying to decide whether I should just take my time in Standard or restart the new league, I'm reminded that if I don't play the league, I won't get to go through the new content in a reasonable time. That progression through maps itself can be a chore of grinding with a build too powerful for the level to which I have access, and map trading isn't fun. GGG only add bonus here and there to help, like the locked adjacent map bonus, but don't realize that map completion has been made worse by removing Zana dailies that were refreshing its shop, giving a chance to buy a missing map. And I'll finish with a reminder to Reddit users that at the start of the league, you welcomed Diablo refugees. A "how to trade" guide was published in that occasion and you sighed at the complication. But back then what you missed is that it was only a guide on how to buy. Not how to sell. And that the critical point. The real dark point of PoE. Shameful in my opinion that GGG cowers from this topic everytime as if they weren't able to find a solution. So is it a feeling you had too?
